Benjamin Heitmann joined DERI as a Ph.D. candidate/researcher in September 2008. His primary advisor for his Ph.D. program is Dr. Conor Hayes. He is working as a part of the LION II cluster.

Research Interests

  • The architecture of the Web, the Semantic Web and the Web of Data
  • The influence of these architectures on the ability to provide recommendations
  • Identifying and creating best practices and guidelines for enabling recommendations on the Web of Data
  • Engineering solutions like software components and frameworks to provide recommendations on the Web of Data

Education

M.Sc. in Computer Science, University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Master thesis: “Transitioning web application frameworks towards the Semantic Web”, which introduces software engineering patterns for the architecture of Semantic Web applications. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Stefan Decker and Dr. Ir. Eyal Oren, National University of Ireland, Galway, and Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer, Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI), University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

Student research project (similar to the B.Sc. thesis): “SiRDF – A simplified Data Model for RDF with the same expressiveness: Conceptual model and Java API”, which investigated the formal semantics of a simplified data model for RDF. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer and Dipl.-Inform. Max Völkel, Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI), University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
